C&C's cleaner production experience sharing
The production plant of C & C Joint Printing Co., (H.K.) Ltd. located in Longgang, Shenzhen, is specialising in publication and commercial printing. Since 1999, we have established the environmental management system and successfully acquired the 14001 certificate. In 2004, we have successfully established the integrated management system (IMS) to enhance the overall management in the area of quality, environment as well as occupational safety and health. Throughout these years, it puts much management effort and have invested over 10 thousand million dollars both in Hong Kong and Shenzhen on the environmental-friendly production, including the adoption of materials, technologies, measures as well as installation of equipment that can reduce or control the emission of Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) for ambient air and energy conservation. However, in the printing processes a considerable amount of printing inks, plate making chemicals, cleaning solvents and adhesives, etc., are still being used. This emits VOC and pollutes the ambient air. Besides, the high-speed commercial web presses, air-conditioning system, hot water system and lighting system are the major energy consumption systems in the plant. Thus, C & C participates in the cleaner production project to adopt the cost-effective technologies for achieving the objectives of VOC and wastage reduction, energy conservation as well as supporting the spirit of corporate social responsibility of green printing.
Implemented Cleaner Production Measures:
1.Replaced metal halide high bay lamps with T5 compact fluorescent lamps (save 60,000
kwh each year, investment payback period is about 2 years)
2.Installed heat exchange devices at the existing water-cooled chillers so as to recover surplus heat to generate hot water for staff dormitory and save the electricity consumption (save 286,000 kwh each year, investment payback period is about 5 years)
3.Made use of exhausted heat generated from web presses to boost up a newly installed absorption chiller for generating chilled water of the air-conditioning system
4.Made use of exhausted heat generated from web presses to boost up a newly installed absorption chiller for generating chilled water of the air-conditioning system
5.Used soybean printing inks and central ink supply system to reduce 70%-80% the ink wastages and save 500,000 metal ink containers
6.Adopted low VOC environmental cleaning agent extensively to replace gasoline so as to clean up printing drums and associated parts
